Veena vs Soundation

Published By Veena Studio

Which is better, Veena or Soundation?

In Veena vs Soundation, Veena is the better choice for anyone who wants the song to leave the studio. Soundation's own FAQ says "To export audio from Soundation, you need to be on one of the paid plans", its WAV export starts at $14.99 a month, and its AI makes 12-second samples you may not use commercially (Soundation, September 2026). Veena exports 24-bit WAV on the free plan, and its personal music producer builds whole songs with you as real tracks you own.

Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser.

Every Soundation fact below comes from Soundation's plans page, support pages and "What's new" page as they read in September 2026.

What Soundation's plans cost you

A song you finish on Soundation's free plan stays in Soundation. Export starts on the paid plans, and the formats are "LO-RES MP3 (192kbs) HIGH-RES MP3 (320kbs) WAV (16-bit)", with WAV only on Creator and Pro:

  • Starter: $9.99 a month, or $4.99 a month billed annually. "Export audio MP3 format", "25 AI credits/month", 10GB of storage.
  • Creator: $14.99 a month, or $9.99 billed annually. "Export audio WAV format", 100 AI credits a month, 100GB.
  • Pro: $49.99 a month, or $29.99 billed annually. WAV, 500 AI credits a month, 1TB.

Soundation's Pro plan costs more than twice Veena Pro's $20 a month, and it buys export, storage and sample credits. Veena gives the export free: Veena Pro pays only for more CoProducer, removing the daily request cap and unlocking the premium models.

Gennie makes a sample. CoProducer builds the song.

Soundation's AI is Gennie, "an AI text-to-sample generator developed by Soundation, based on MusicGen technology". Write a prompt and it "generates a 12-second-long musical sample". The licence sets the limit: "Generated samples are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) 4.0", and "You may not use the Gennie-generated samples for commercial purposes." Soundation calls the samples "meant to be used in music creation, not to be the end product."

CoProducer starts with a sentence about the whole song. Here is the flow on Veena's free plan, with the lo-fi prompt at the bottom of this page:

  1. Open Veena in your browser and sign in with Google. Nothing to install and no graphics card needed, because CoProducer runs on Veena's servers.
  2. Describe the beat. "Make a 92 BPM lo-fi hip hop beat in E-flat major…" CoProducer sets the tempo and key, plans the sections with their bar lengths, and writes a task list you can watch it tick off.
  3. Pick each part. Every new part arrives as three options. Audition them and choose. A part that has to fit another, like a bass under the Rhodes chords, waits for the one you picked and reads its actual notes.
  4. Change anything in plain words. "Swing the hats harder." "Swap the vibraphone for a muted trumpet." Or open the piano roll and drag the notes yourself. One undo reverses any CoProducer change.
  5. Export. WAV, MP3 or MIDI, the mix or every track, as often as you like.

In Veena's own data, 3 in 4 new users (75.7%) whose first request asks for a new song get a finished first result on day one; when the request names a genre, 81.5% do.

The studio around the song

  • Edit every note. The piano roll has draw and select tools, a velocity editor and 8 snap settings; the drums open in a step sequencer.
  • Sing it instead of typing it. Hum a hook and CoProducer turns it into an editable MIDI part, or re-voices your voice as a synth pad, strings or a saxophone, through voice to instrument.
  • Bring your own recordings. Drop in a voice memo, a demo or a loop and CoProducer measures its tempo and phrasing, then writes new parts that fit it.
  • Split any song into stems, vocals, drums, bass and other, with a right-click, free. See stem separation in Veena.
  • Your own plug-ins. The Veena Bridge helper app opens VST3 and Audio Unit plug-ins on a Mac and VST3 on Windows, and CoProducer starts from their real presets.
  • Mix and master it. CoProducer measures the mix, sets levels, pan and effects, and masters it for streaming.
  • Collaboration, live since 12 September 2026 on every plan: invite links, named cursors on the timeline, a shared CoProducer chat and a private one for each person.

Who owns the song

Soundation's Gennie samples carry a non-commercial licence: "You're free to manipulate the samples and redistribute music containing samples generated by Gennie, but you may not monetize it."

Veena goes the other way. Its terms say "you own the Output you generate through your use of the Service", on the free plan as on Veena Pro, and there is no watermark on your exports. Every part CoProducer writes is yours to release.

Veena vs Soundation: who each is for

  • Veena is for anyone who wants to finish and release a song: a personal music producer who builds every part from one sentence, 24-bit WAV and every stem on the free plan, your own plug-ins, real-time collaboration and ownership of everything you make.
  • Soundation suits musicians who already keep projects in its studio, pay for a plan, and use 12-second samples as non-commercial sketches.
  • If you have Soundation projects, export them while your plan allows it and keep producing in Veena.

Moving from Soundation to Veena

  1. Take out what your plan lets you. On a paid plan, export the mix as MP3 or WAV, and each channel with "Export channel as WAV" or "Export channel as MIDI". Soundation's MIDI files carry "velocity, time signature, and tempo".
  2. Open Veena and sign in with Google. Nothing to install.
  3. Drag the files onto the timeline. Veena reads 13 audio formats plus MIDI, puts each MIDI track on its own track with an instrument, and the first clip you import sets the project tempo.
  4. On Soundation's free plan, with no audio to export? Describe the song to CoProducer, tempo, key and parts, and it rebuilds it as editable tracks.
  5. Replace the Gennie samples. Ask CoProducer to write new parts in their place, so everything in the song is yours to release.

The verdict: Veena

Soundation keeps audio export off its free plan, charges $14.99 a month for 16-bit WAV, licenses its AI samples for non-commercial use only, and last listed an update in January 2024. Veena exports 24-bit WAV and every stem on the free plan, has CoProducer write whole songs you own, and ships new features every week. Paste the lo-fi prompt below into CoProducer and hear your first beat tonight.

Try this in Veena

Make a 92 BPM lo-fi hip hop beat in E-flat major: a dusty swung kick and snare, soft brushed hats, a warm upright-style bass, jazzy Rhodes seventh chords with a little tape wobble and a mellow vibraphone melody. Intro 4 bars, beat 16, break 8, beat 16, outro 4.

Frequently asked questions

Is Veena better than Soundation?

Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser. Soundation's free plan can't export audio, and its WAV export starts on Creator at $14.99 a month (Soundation, September 2026).

Can you export from Soundation for free?

Not audio. Soundation's FAQ says 'To export audio from Soundation, you need to be on one of the paid plans'; Starter ($9.99 a month) exports MP3 and Creator ($14.99 a month) adds 16-bit WAV (September 2026). Veena's free plan exports WAV at 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps and MIDI, the mix or every track, with no cap and no watermark.

What is the difference between Gennie and CoProducer?

Soundation's Gennie is 'an AI text-to-sample generator' that makes a 12-second sample per prompt, licensed for non-commercial use only (Soundation, September 2026). Veena's CoProducer is a producer inside the studio: it plans the song, writes drums, bass, chords and melody as editable tracks, arranges the sections and mixes them, and you own everything it writes.

Can I sell music made with Soundation's AI?

Not the Gennie samples. Soundation licenses them under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 and says 'You may not use the Gennie-generated samples for commercial purposes' (September 2026). In Veena, every part CoProducer writes is yours: Veena's terms say you own the Output you generate, on the free plan and on Veena Pro.

Is Soundation still being updated?

Soundation's 'What's new' page lists January 2024, 'Chat released', as its latest update, as of September 2026. Veena ships every week: real-time collaboration, your own plug-ins through Veena Bridge, Mix & Master and Pocket Studio all landed between September and October 2026, each on the free plan.

How do I move my Soundation songs to Veena?

On a paid Soundation plan, export the mix and each channel with 'Export channel as WAV' or 'Export channel as MIDI', then drag the files onto Veena's timeline. Veena reads 13 audio formats plus MIDI. On Soundation's free plan, describe the song to CoProducer and it rebuilds it as editable tracks.
