Picking or skipping CoProducer's options doesn't count against the daily allowance, and a failed run is refunded. Projects save to your account while you work, and a deleted one waits in Recently Deleted for 30 days.

GarageBand is free if you already own Apple hardware: the current Mac build "Requires macOS 15.6 or later" (Mac App Store listing, September 2026), and there is no Windows, Android, Chromebook or browser version. Drummer keeps time; everything else is yours to write.
BandLab gives away its Studio in the browser, but the free tier stops at 16 tracks, shows ads, and keeps Voice Cleaner, AutoMix, Audio-to-MIDI and Smart Tools for Pro, at $14.99 a month or $99 for the first year and $149 a year after (BandLab's membership pricing page and help centre, September 2026). Even Pro stops at 32 tracks, every project on every plan is capped at 15 minutes, and BandLab's help centre says of SongStarter ideas: "you won't own the rights to the generated track".
Cakewalk still turns up on free-DAW lists, yet activation renewals for Cakewalk by BandLab ended in 2025, "the official end of development and support" (Cakewalk's Sonar page, September 2026). Its successor, Cakewalk Sonar, suggests Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM and an 8-core CPU, and its free licence "requires periodic renewal through online or offline activation".
Waveform Free is a desktop download for Windows, macOS and Linux. Tracktion sells feature expansions for it "from $30", and its AI Assistant lives in Waveform Pro, "from $249", where it "won't do anything until you add an API key" from OpenAI or Anthropic, billed per token (Tracktion's product pages, September 2026).
Audacity is free and open source, and it is an audio editor rather than a studio: its manual says "Only limited editing can be performed on Note tracks such as cutting, pasting and deleting" (Audacity's manual, September 2026). It records and edits audio, and it is a download on every machine.

What the producer adds to a free DAW
A free DAW used to mean free software and your own time: months of tutorials before a song sounded like one. CoProducer spends that time for you, inside the same session.
Describe the track and it plans the sections, writes each part with 3 options to choose from, and builds the arrangement across intro, verses, choruses, builds, drops and outro. A part that has to fit another waits and reads the notes already placed, so the bass locks to the kick you kept. It sets levels, pan and per-clip effects in a finishing pass, then tells you exactly what landed on the timeline and what it skipped.
It works from your audio too. Drop a voice memo, a guitar loop or an old bounce onto a track, and CoProducer measures its tempo and phrasing and builds around it.
