Soundation Alternative: Veena, Free Export and a Producer

Soundation's own FAQ says "To export audio from Soundation, you need to be on one of the paid plans", and its AI makes 12-second samples you may not use commercially, which is why musicians go looking for a Soundation alternative. The best Soundation alternative is Veena, a free AI DAW with a personal music producer built in: 24-bit WAV export is on the free plan, and CoProducer builds whole songs with you as real tracks you own.

Why people look for a Soundation alternative

The free plan can't export

A song you finish on Soundation's free plan stays in Soundation. Export starts on paid plans, and the formats are "LO-RES MP3 (192kbs) HIGH-RES MP3 (320kbs) WAV (16-bit)", with WAV only on Creator and Pro:

• Starter: $9.99 a month, or $4.99 a month billed annually. "Export audio MP3 format", "25 AI credits/month", 10GB of storage.
• Creator: $14.99 a month, or $9.99 billed annually. "Export audio WAV format", 100 AI credits a month, 100GB.
• Pro: $49.99 a month, or $29.99 billed annually. WAV, 500 AI credits a month, 1TB.

The AI makes 12-second samples you can't sell

Soundation's AI is Gennie, "an AI text-to-sample generator developed by Soundation, based on MusicGen technology". Write a prompt and it "generates a 12-second-long musical sample". The licence is the catch: "Generated samples are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) 4.0", and "You may not use the Gennie-generated samples for commercial purposes. … You're free to manipulate the samples and redistribute music containing samples generated by Gennie, but you may not monetize it." Soundation calls the samples "meant to be used in music creation, not to be the end product."

The changelog stopped in January 2024

Soundation's "What's new" page lists its latest update as "January 2024", with one line: "Chat released". The entry before it, from October 2023, is a sampler with a "Max 30s length".

Add it up: a monthly plan before any song leaves the studio, $14.99 a month before it leaves as WAV, and an AI whose output you can't release for money.

Veena: the Soundation alternative that finishes the song

Veena starts free and stays free through the export. Open daw.veena.studio, sign in with Google and describe the song, not a 12-second sample:

"Make a 104 BPM afrobeats song in A minor: a bouncy kick and rimshot groove with shakers and congas, a warm sliding bass, bright guitar-style plucks and soft pad chords. 8-bar intro, 16-bar verse, 8-bar hook, 16-bar verse, 8-bar hook, 8-bar outro."

CoProducer sets the tempo and key, lays out the six sections and writes the drums, bass, plucks and chords as real tracks that run the length of the song. Each new part arrives as 3 options; pick one, and the parts that depend on it are written to fit. Among new users who ask for a new song and name its genre, 81.5% get a finished first result on day one, in Veena's own data.

Then it's a studio, not a sample generator:

• Edit every note. The piano roll has draw and select tools, a velocity editor and 8 snap settings; the drums open in a step sequencer.
• Swap any sound in plain words. "Swap the plucks for a guitar", "make the bass rounder". The notes stay; the instrument changes.
• Sing it instead of typing it. Hum a hook and CoProducer turns it into an editable MIDI part, or re-voices your voice as a synth pad, strings or a saxophone, through voice to instrument.
• Build around your recording. Drop in a voice memo or a loop and CoProducer measures its tempo and phrasing, then writes new parts that fit it.
• Split any song into stems, vocals, drums, bass and other, with a right-click, free. See stem separation in Veena.
• Mix and master it. CoProducer measures the mix, sets levels, pan and effects from 10 built-ins, and masters it for streaming. Your own VST3 and Audio Unit plug-ins open through the Veena Bridge helper app.

When it's done, open the account menu and choose Export: WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps or MIDI, the full mix or every track as stems in one zip, as often as you like, with no watermark. Veena's terms say "you own the Output you generate through your use of the Service", and that covers everything CoProducer writes.

Veena is also a studio that ships. Its changelog lists updates on 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21 and 22 September 2026 alone: real-time collaboration with invite links and live cursors, Veena's own synth with 39 presets, your plug-ins on the live site, shared and private CoProducer chats, and imported loops that keep their tempo.

The free plan has a daily CoProducer allowance and up to 5 projects, with no end date and no card. Veena Pro is $20 a month and removes the daily request cap and unlocks the premium models.

In one line: Veena exports 24-bit WAV on the free plan, its AI writes whole songs you own instead of 12-second samples you can't sell, and it's shipping every week.

Four more Soundation alternatives

• BandLab. Free, and its web mixdown exports as M4A or 16-bit WAV, but a project stops at "16 tracks with a maximum duration of 15 minutes" (help centre, edited 24 March 2026), its AI tools need Pro at $14.99 a month, and on SongStarter tracks "you won't own the rights to the generated track". Leave Soundation, keep your songs

1. Take out what your plan lets you. On a paid plan, export the mix as MP3 or WAV, and each channel with "Export channel as WAV" or "Export channel as MIDI". Soundation's MIDI files carry "velocity, time signature, and tempo".
2. Open Veena and sign in with Google. Nothing to install.
3. Drag the files onto the timeline. Veena reads 13 audio formats plus MIDI, puts each MIDI track on its own track with an instrument, and routes channel 10 to drums. The first clip you import sets the project tempo.
4. On Soundation's free plan, with no audio to export? Describe the song to CoProducer, tempo, key and parts, and it rebuilds it as editable tracks, or hum the hook and build from there.
5. Swap out the Gennie samples. Ask CoProducer to write new parts in their place, so everything in the song is yours to release.
6. Split, mix and export. Separate any bounce into stems, let CoProducer mix, and export 24-bit WAV.
