Online Recording Studio

Veena is a free online recording studio with a personal music producer built in. Record your voice or instrument in the browser, and CoProducer builds the rest of the song around your take, drums, bass, chords, arrangement and mix, as real tracks you can edit and export. Nothing to install.

Most recording software stops at the take. You sing the verse, it sits alone on a timeline, and the band has to come from somewhere else. In Veena the band is already in the building.

What you need to record online

• A microphone. The laptop's built-in mic is fine for ideas; a USB microphone or an audio interface with a studio mic is better for keepers. Veena records from whichever input your browser sees.
• Headphones, wired. They keep the backing track out of your vocal, and wired ones add no delay of their own.
• A modern browser. Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc work best, Firefox is supported, and the window needs to be at least 1,000 pixels wide. Allow microphone access when the browser asks.

Set up once: calibrate the mic

Press record in Veena's transport bar and the recording panel opens with your input, a Calibrate row and a Monitoring switch.

1. Volume calibration. Tap Start and speak or sing normally. Veena sets the right input level for your mic automatically, so the take doesn't clip.
2. Latency calibration. Every computer adds a small delay between hearing the beat and recording your voice. Veena measures yours and shifts every take back so it lands on the beat. For this one step, your mic has to hear your speakers, so do it before you put the headphones on.
3. Monitoring. Switch it on to hear yourself through your headphones as you sing.

Once both are done the Calibrate row reads "Ready", and the settings save with the project.

Record a take

1. Pick the spot. Click the timeline to move the playhead. A red box shows where the take will land: on the track you selected, else the first empty track, else a new one, never over a clip you already have.
2. Count yourself in. Set the count-in to 1 or 2 bars; the metronome clicks alone, then the backing track and the recording start together.
3. Sing. The waveform draws live as you go.
4. Loop the hard line. Set a loop over the tricky bars and keep singing. Veena keeps your last complete pass.
5. Polish it. Double-click the take and add effects: Auto-Tune set to your key and scale, the Compressor's Vocals preset, a Plate reverb, a Slap delay.

Then the band walks in

This is where an online recording studio with a producer beats one without. In Veena's own data, about 1 in 4 first requests refer to the user's own audio: a recording, a demo, a loop or a voice memo. Tell CoProducer what to build and it measures your take first, its tempo, its downbeat and a flow map of where your syllables land, then sets the project to match. Every part it writes reads that map, so the drums leave room for the words and the bass moves where your phrases breathe.

It can do more with the take itself: chop it into a new groove, turn a hummed line into an editable MIDI part, or re-voice it as another instrument, "make my humming a saxophone", in about 12 seconds. Online recording studio vs recording software (September 2026)

Rival plans and limits below come from each company's own site, as of 23 September 2026.

Soundtrap records in the browser, but its own site says "Access to Vocal tuning and Automation available on the Sound Starter, Music Production, and Production & Vocals plans", and Vocal Cleanup sits on the paid plans too, from US$9.59 a month billed yearly. And WAV is paywalled: "WAV downloads (or high quality downloads) are only available on Music Production, Production & Vocals, and Vocals & songwriting" (Soundtrap's pricing page and help centre, September 2026).

BandLab records for free, but its free Studio stops at 16 tracks and 15 minutes a project, and Takes, its comping tool, and Voice Cleaner arrive with Pro at $14.99 a month (BandLab's membership pricing page and help centre, September 2026).

Audacity is free, but it's a download for Windows, macOS or Linux, and after the take it hands you a waveform, not a band (Audacity's site, September 2026).

GarageBand records only on Apple devices, and on iPhone and iPad "Multitrack recording requires a compatible third‑party audio interface" (Apple's GarageBand for iOS page, September 2026). Its Drummer plays along; the bass, the chords and the arrangement are still yours to build.

Veena is the online recording studio where the take is the beginning of the song, not the end of the session.
