3 September: every download counts
From 3 September, getting a song off Suno spends a download, and the plans got hard ceilings (Suno's help centre, September 2026):

The new Terms tie your rights to that meter: "You may not commercially exploit Output that has not been downloaded by you through an approved channel under these Terms of Service." Cancel, and "downloads follow free tier limits." Annual subscribers whose plans had no download limit got one answer: "you can cancel your plan". Old songs: nothing deleted, everything metered
Suno's help centre is explicit: download limits "apply to all music on Suno starting September 3, including songs created before that date." Your songs "stay fully playable and shareable on Suno", but taking one home spends a download, unless you had already downloaded it. 9 September: v6, and the end of the older models
Suno's CEO introduced v6 as "a new generation of music models developed with our industry partners, including Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe." It comes in three models: v6 and v6-wild for Pro and Premier subscribers, and v6-mini, which is "available to everyone".
The same post set the terms for everything before it: "As v6 rolls out, we will retire our previous models and move Suno entirely onto the v6 generation." Suno's help centre spells out the cost: "Retiring a model means you can't generate new songs with it", and extensions, remixes and covers of older songs "will run on the new models, so results may sound different from the original generation."

Studio 1.x: on the way out
When Studio 2.0 arrived on 13 August, Suno's help centre said: "We expect to deprecate Studio 1.x in early September 2026." Projects made in 1.x still open in Studio 2.0, but once you work on them there, that work "will not be able to be carried back to Studio 1.x." 18 September: a second lawsuit, and what v6 learned from
On 18 September, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment filed a second complaint against Suno in Boston federal court, accusing it of copying 60,202 of their recordings. The complaint's line on v6: "v6 is not a fresh start; it is the fruit of the same poisoned tree" (Music Business Worldwide, 18 September 2026).
Suno replied the same day that the claims are "fundamentally flawed on both the facts and the law", and in that statement said: "v6 was trained on content licensed from our partners, interactions including creations and preference signals from our community, and the accumulated learnings from our team" (Music Business Worldwide, 22 September 2026).
What September's changes mean for a musician
- Your library runs on a meter. Every song you want as a file, old or new, spends a capped download.
- Your sound can be retired. The model behind your favourite songs can no longer make new ones.
- Your rights follow the download. No download through an approved channel, no commercial use.
- The studio costs $30 a month and keeps your plug-ins out.
