Suno Paywall on Old Songs: Is Your Library Locked?
The Suno paywall on old songs, explained: since 3 Sep 2026, songs you made earlier spend a capped download to leave. What still works, and a free way out.
The Suno paywall on old songs is the download cap: since 3 September 2026, every song in your library you never downloaded, however old, costs one of your plan's limited downloads (Suno's help centre, September 2026). Nothing was deleted. What changed is the price of getting a song out, and the models that made it.

On Pro and Premier, Suno puts it plainly: "downloading an older song will count toward your current monthly download allowance unless you've already downloaded that song before." What still works, and what doesn't
Still works, on every plan: "Every song in your library stays fully playable and shareable through links on Suno." Suno's v6 FAQ adds that you can still "listen to, share, remaster and cover songs made with old models", and "The original song itself is never modified."
No longer works the way it did:
- The model that made it is gone. "Retiring a model means you can't generate new songs with it." Keep working on an old song and "any new iterations will be made with our latest models."
- Extensions sound different. Extends, remixes and covers of old songs "will run on the new models, so results may sound different from the original generation."
- Release needs a download. Under the 3 September Terms, a song you haven't downloaded can't be exploited commercially. See Suno commercial use rules.
- Free-plan songs don't upgrade. Subscribing "does not give you retroactive commercial use licensing for the songs made with a free plan by default."
If you paid for a year of unlimited downloads
Suno's downloads FAQ carries this exact question: "I paid for an annual plan that included unlimited downloads. What are my options?" The whole answer: "If you no longer wish to be a subscriber, you can cancel your plan by heading to suno.com/account."
Suno's Terms add that "Payments made by you hereunder are final and non-refundable, unless otherwise determined by Suno." If that's you, the steps and what you keep are in how to cancel a Suno subscription.
Get your catalogue out: a checklist
- Rank what you'd release or pitch, and download those first. One song is one download, whatever the format.
- Take WAV from suno.com. WAV is for Pro and Premier, and mobile downloads default to MP3.
- Grab any stems in the same visit. If you already split a song into stems, they are part of that song's download and don't count separately.
- Start with songs you never took. Songs you already downloaded can be downloaded again for free, so they can wait.
- Finish before you cancel. After cancelling, you're on the free tier's limits.
- Keep the files somewhere you control. Suno's Terms reserve the right to terminate accounts "that are inactive for an extended period of time", along with their Output.
Where your next songs live
Leave Suno, keep producing in Veena. Your next song lives in a project that no model update can touch.
- Sign in at daw.veena.studio with Google. Projects save to your account automatically, and a deleted project waits in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
- Describe the parts, not a lost model. Name the tempo, key, instruments and sections. That's how producers talk to CoProducer anyway: in Veena's own data, only about 3% of typed requests name an artist.
- Or bring your own recordings. Drop in a voice memo, a demo or a loop and CoProducer builds new parts around it. Any audio file splits into four stems (vocals, drums, bass, other) with the free stem splitter.
- Keep what you build. Drums, bass and chords land as MIDI you can edit hit by hit and note by note. A model update doesn't rewrite notes already on your timeline.
- Export on your schedule. The account menu's Export gives you WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps or MIDI, the full mix or every track, with no cap and no watermark.

Did Suno put a paywall on old songs?
In effect, yes. Since 3 September 2026, Suno's download limits cover your whole library, so a song you made before then and never downloaded costs one of your plan's capped downloads: a lifetime trial download on Free, one of 20 a month on Pro, one of 60 on Premier. The songs still play on Suno. Veena exports every project with no cap, free.
Can I still download my old Suno songs for free?
Only the ones you already downloaded. Suno says a song that has counted once can be downloaded again without using another download. Every other old song spends a trial download, a monthly download or a purchased one. Veena works differently: every export, on every plan including the free one, is uncounted, in WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps or MIDI.
Will my old Suno songs change now that v6 is out?
The originals stay as they are, but every model before v6 is retired: you can't generate new songs with them, and extends, covers and remixes of old songs run on v6, so Suno warns "results may sound different from the original generation." In Veena a song is tracks and notes in your project, and they stay exactly as you left them.
What should I do before I cancel Suno?
Download the songs you care about while your plan is active, in WAV from suno.com, because after cancelling Suno says "downloads follow free tier limits." Stems come with each song's download at no extra count. Then keep producing in Veena: start a new song from a sentence or bring your own recordings, and export whenever you like, with no cap.
