How the melody generator writes to your chords

One part leads, the other listens. CoProducer decides the order parts are written in from what you ask for. A melody that has to fit your harmony waits until the chords are on the timeline, then reads the notes actually placed there: the voicing, the bass note, the beat where each chord changes. No melody is written against a chord symbol it only imagined.

Your key stays your key. Once a project has clips, CoProducer never changes the key unless you ask. Veena covers all 24 major and minor keys, 8 time signatures and tempos from 40 to 300 BPM.

Hooks, toplines and lead lines: three prompts that work

A hook

Write a 4-bar hook on the Bell Pluck over my chorus chords: mostly chord tones, one leap up in bar 3, and play it twice with a different ending the second time.

Listen for the leap. A hook needs one interval the ear can hang on, and the repeat with a changed ending is what makes it stick.

A topline for your own voice

Vocals are the most-named instrument in first requests to CoProducer, in Veena's own data, so the melody most people need is one they will sing themselves.

Write a topline I can sing over the verse, C4 to A4, short phrases with a breath at the end of each bar, on Soft Lead so I can learn it.

Learn it from the MIDI, then record your voice on its own track with a count-in. CoProducer builds the band around the take.

A lead line or counter-melody

Add a Pizzicato Strings counter-melody that answers the hook in the gaps and stays under the vocal range.

Counter-lines are where a generator that can't hear the song falls apart. Veena's reads the hook it answers, so the two parts take turns instead of colliding.

Hum it, and it becomes the melody

Some melodies arrive in the shower, not at the keyboard. Hum, sing or whistle the idea into your microphone, or drop a voice memo on the timeline, then ask CoProducer to transcribe it. Veena detects the pitch in your browser, places the tune on a new track as editable MIDI and mutes your recording. Or keep it as audio and ask for "a saxophone" or "a synth pad": CoProducer re-voices the take as that instrument, pitch-corrected to your key first. That's voice to instrument.

Reshape the melody note by note

Every melody opens in the piano roll: draw and select tools, a velocity editor, notes from C0 to C9, 8 snap settings with triplets, and Ctrl or Cmd with ↑ or ↓ to jump an octave. Or say what you want: "extend it to 8 bars", "humanize the timing", "only change bars 5 to 8" with those bars highlighted, "swap the Bell Pluck for Electric Piano and keep the notes". One undo reverses any CoProducer change, and the MIDI generator exports the result as a .mid file for any DAW.
