A melody on its own is easy to generate. A melody that fits a song is harder, because it has to agree with the harmony under it, sit in a singable range and repeat enough to stick. That is the part CoProducer takes on, and the part this page explains.
What makes a melody work
Here is a four-bar hook over a common progression in A minor (Am, F, C, G), one note per beat:

Three things make it hold together:
- Chord tones on the strong beats. Beats 1 and 3 of every bar land on a note of the chord playing under them: E and C over Am, C and A over F, G over C, B over G. The notes between are steps that connect them.
- A question, then an answer. Bars 1 and 2 fall. Bars 3 and 4 climb back up, and the jump from G4 to C5 gives the phrase its lift.
- A small range. Everything sits between E4 and E5, inside most singers' comfortable range.
That is the craft CoProducer works from. It reads the notes your chord track plays, not just the key name, so beat 1 of bar 2 knows it is sitting on F.
