Ask CoProducer for the hook
Open Ask CoProducer in the dock and describe the line like a topliner would:
- "Write a catchy 8-bar synth lead over my chords in F minor, mostly stepwise, peaking in bar 7."
- "Give me a lo-fi piano melody at 78 BPM that leaves space for a vocal."
- "Make the chorus melody an octave higher and simplify the rhythm in bars 5 to 8."
You get 3 options: hover to hear each, browse with ↑ and ↓, and press Enter to add one. CoProducer writes the melody against the chord notes actually on your timeline, so it sits on the harmony you chose. Describe the music rather than an artist. In Veena's own data, only about 3% of typed requests name an artist; producers describe tempo, key, bars and instruments instead.
Hum it, then turn it into any instrument
- Record the tune. Press Record in the transport bar, choose Audio and press Start recording, then hum, sing or whistle. A voice memo dropped on the timeline works too.
- Give it to CoProducer. Drag the clip into the CoProducer panel, or name it in your request.
- Choose notes or sound. Ask "turn my humming into a MIDI melody on Soft Lead" and Veena detects the pitches in your browser, places an editable part on a new track and mutes your take. Ask "make my humming a saxophone" and CoProducer re-voices the recording itself, tuned to the project key first, in about 12 seconds.
- Fix any note. Open the new clip's Piano Roll tab and drag a wrong note to the right pitch.

Draw it in the piano roll
- Click Create MIDI Clip in the transport bar and choose Melody.
- In the Instrument tab, pick a sound: Soft Lead, Supersaw Lead, Bell Pluck, Acoustic Grand Piano, Violin or Acoustic Guitar (nylon) are good places to start.
- In the Piano Roll tab, click with the Draw Tool to place notes, drag a note's right edge to lengthen it and right-click a note to delete it.
- Shape the phrasing in the velocity editor, and play the line back with Space.

Melody tips
- Write it in the song's key. Set the key in the transport bar first; CoProducer never changes it once your song has clips, unless you ask.
- Swap the sound, keep the tune. "Put this melody on a pluck" changes the instrument and leaves every note in place.
- Leave room. Ask for rests on the downbeat or a shorter phrase when a vocal will sit on top.
- Export the notes. Download MIDI file saves the melody for any other DAW.

Which instruments can play a melody in Veena?
As of September 2026, Veena has 61 instrument presets: pianos, guitars, strings, basses and 17 leads, plucks, pads and FX on Veena's own synth. Add any VST or AU instrument you own through Veena Bridge. Change the instrument whenever you like and the melody's notes stay exactly as they are.
Will CoProducer's melody fit my chords?
Yes. CoProducer writes a melody after reading the chord notes actually placed on your timeline, not a chord name or a summary, so the tune follows the harmony you kept. If there are no chords yet, it can write the melody first and build chords that fit underneath it.
