Voice to instrument in Veena

Updated October 2026By Veena Studio

Voice to instrument in Veena turns a recorded idea into a new instrument sound or editable MIDI when you tell CoProducer what the part should become.

Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser.

Voice to instrument in Veena, step by step

  1. Record the phrase. Press Record to capture your own humming or melodic idea, or use Upload for a voice memo already on your device.
  2. Identify the take for CoProducer. Drag its clip into the panel on a laptop. On a phone, say the track’s name or which recording you mean.
  3. Name the destination sound. Try "turn this humming into a warm cello line, keeping my melody" or "make this recorded phrase a soft synth pad."
  4. Choose notes or audio in your request. Add "as editable MIDI" when you want to alter individual notes. Ask for a new audio sound when you want CoProducer to re-voice the recording.
  5. Listen in the song. Compare the new part with the chords and drums. Ask for a narrower change if the phrase is right and only the sound needs refining.
  6. Edit the result. MIDI opens in Piano Roll and Instrument; audio opens in Waveform and can be moved, split, stretched and processed through its track.
  7. Build around the part. Ask for drums, chords and bass that leave space for your recorded melody, then arrange the song into sections.

Tell CoProducer what to preserve

"Keep my melody" identifies the musical material that matters. "Double this line on strings and leave the recording audible" tells it you want an added layer. A new sound and an editable note transcription are two distinct results, so say which you need.

Use the instrument as a compositional choice

A voice memo can hold a melody long before you choose its final timbre. Try the phrase on a piano when checking harmony, a cello when shaping a sustained lead, or a synth when the song needs a pad. CoProducer can help with the sound and the supporting parts without requiring an imported track: you can also begin a blank project by describing the entire song.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn my voice recording into an instrument in Veena?

Record your own hummed or sung phrase in Veena, then give the clip to CoProducer and name the instrument you want. It can re-voice the recording or transcribe its notes to MIDI for an editable instrument part. Listen to the result in the song, then refine its notes, timing or sound.

Do I need a finished song for voice to instrument in Veena?

No. Record a melodic idea or import your own voice memo in Veena, then ask CoProducer for the instrument sound or editable MIDI you want. You can build drums, chords and bass around that part afterwards. Veena also starts songs from a blank project and a text request without an audio input.

Can I keep the original voice recording in Veena?

Yes. Tell CoProducer in Veena to keep the source audible and add the new instrument as another layer when that is your intention. You can mute, compare and arrange the clips yourself afterwards. For note-level changes, ask for editable MIDI, then open Piano Roll and choose its sound in Instrument.
