How much does Soundtrap cost?

Soundtrap's paid plans cost US$11.99 (Sound Starter), US$16.99 (Music Production or Vocals & Songwriting) and US$20.99 (Production & Vocals) a month, or less billed yearly, each with a 7-day trial (September 2026). Veena's free plan already includes 24-bit WAV export and stem separation; Veena Pro, $20 a month, removes the daily request cap and unlocks the premium models.

Can you export WAV from Soundtrap for free?

No. Soundtrap's help centre says 'WAV downloads (or high quality downloads) are only available on Music Production, Production & Vocals, and Vocals & songwriting', so free accounts export MP3 or OGG. Veena exports WAV at 24-bit/48 kHz on its free plan, plus MP3 and MIDI, the full mix or every track, as often as you like, with no watermark.

Is Soundtrap free for students?

Soundtrap for Education is bought by schools per seat: Classroom is US$7.98 per seat per year and School US$9.98, with a 50-seat minimum, after a 30-day free trial (September 2026). Veena sells no seats. Each musician signs in with Google and gets the free plan, with CoProducer, stems, collaboration and 24-bit WAV export, on a Chromebook or any laptop browser.

Is Soundtrap free? Yes: Soundtrap has a US$0 plan with a starter library of loops and instruments and "Essential effects". But the free plan exports MP3 or OGG only. WAV export starts at US$16.99 a month, vocal tuning needs a paid plan, and the Stem Splitter lives only on the US$20.99-a-month Production & Vocals plan. Veena, a free AI DAW with a personal music producer built in, includes 24-bit WAV and stem separation on its free plan.

Is Soundtrap free? What the free plan includes

Soundtrap's free card lists:

Its pricing FAQ adds that free accounts can join "virtual bands" with other musicians. Soundtrap's own summary of the free experience: you can "create and save music projects" and "use a selection of free loops, instruments, drum kits, and studio tools".

What the free plan leaves out

The rest of Soundtrap's help centre fills in what "a selection" means:

No WAV. "WAV downloads (or high quality downloads) are only available on Music Production, Production & Vocals, and Vocals & songwriting" (edited 31 August 2026). Free accounts export MP3 at 320 kbps or OGG, both at 44.1 kHz.
No stem splitting. The Stem Splitter "is only available on Production & Vocals", and handles "audio up to 10 minutes long" (edited 16 September 2026).
No vocal tuning. "Standard Vocal Tuner is available on all paid plans"; the Realtime Vocal Tuner needs Vocals & Songwriting or Production & Vocals (edited 24 July 2026).
Part of the library is locked. "Some loops and instruments are locked unless you're on a paid subscription plan" (edited 22 January 2026).
Five mastering styles are paid. Sub Boost, Punchy, Louder, Cranked and Cassette are "for paid Music Production, Vocals & Songwriting and Production & Vocals" subscriptions.
No AI. Nothing on Soundtrap's pricing page is labelled AI. Every part of every song is placed, played or recorded by you.

What Soundtrap costs: the four paid plans

Soundtrap sells four plans for individuals (pricing page, September 2026):

Sound Starter: US$11.99 a month, or US$9.59 a month billed yearly (US$115.08). Adds vocal tuning and Time Restore, still no WAV.
Music Production: US$16.99 a month, or US$13.59 billed yearly (US$163.08). Adds "High Quality Downloads", Soundtrap's name for WAV.
Vocals & Songwriting: US$16.99 a month, or US$13.59 billed yearly (US$163.08). WAV, realtime vocal tuning and transcripts for podcasts.
Production & Vocals: US$20.99 a month, or US$16.59 billed yearly (US$199.08). The only plan with the Stem Splitter.

Each offers "Try 7 days for free", with a catch in the footnote: "Free trial not available for users who have already tried a paid Soundtrap plan."

When a subscription or trial ends, "your account is automatically reverted back to a Free account" and "you will lose access to paid features available for paid accounts such as but not limited to some loops, effects, instruments and Time Restore" (help centre, edited 29 May 2026).

Is Soundtrap free for schools?

No. Soundtrap for Education is sold per seat, per year: Classroom at US$7.98 a seat (US$399 a year for 50 seats) and School at US$9.98 a seat (US$499 for 50), with "buy as many seats as you want, starting from 50". District pricing is "Let's talk". Schools get a 30-day free trial, and in education accounts the Stem Splitter is for "Teachers and Owners only on District plan".

The price of "free": US$20.99 a month for the one plan that exports WAV and splits stems, a sound library that shrinks the day you stop paying, and no producer on any plan to build the song with you.

Three jobs, two free plans

Tune a vocal and send it to a mastering engineer. On Soundtrap's free plan, you can't: the Vocal Tuner starts on paid plans, and the export is MP3 or OGG. On Veena's, put Auto-Tune on the take, then export a 24-bit WAV of the mix and every track.

Pull the drums out of an old demo. Soundtrap's Stem Splitter needs Production & Vocals at US$20.99 a month. In Veena, right-click the demo, choose Separate into Stems, and the drums land on their own track, free.

Get a beat written under your idea. No Soundtrap plan writes one; you place loops or play the parts yourself. In Veena, CoProducer writes the drums, bass and chords around your hummed melody or recorded vocal, and every part stays editable.

Export from Soundtrap. In the studio, choose File, then Export, and pick MP3 or OGG (or WAV on Music Production and up). Education accounts download from the profile page.
Drag the files into Veena. It reads 13 audio formats, OGG and MP3 included, plus MIDI files.
Split the mix you couldn't split before. Right-click, Separate into Stems, free.
Ask CoProducer to build on it: "write a new bassline under this", "extend the chorus to 16 bars", "add a string pad in the outro".
