How do I change the key of a song?
How do I change the key of a song? Open it in Veena: an AI DAW with a personal music producer, CoProducer, built in. Set the new key from Change Key in the transport bar, ask CoProducer to transpose the chords, bass and melody together, or select a recording and use Pitch Shift in its Waveform tab. It is free, it runs in your browser, and the song in its new key exports as WAV, MP3 or stems.
How to change the key of a song in Veena
1. Open the studio. Go to daw.veena.studio and sign in with Google. Open your project, or drag a recording of your own onto the timeline.
2. Find the key you are in. Select an audio clip, open Waveform and press Find Key. For a MIDI song, read the key from the transport bar. The key and tempo page covers the reading in full.
3. Set the new key. Open Change Key in the transport bar and choose from 24 keys, major or minor. Or ask in plain words:
Move this song from F minor to A minor and transpose the Electric Piano chords and the Round Bass line with it.
CoProducer transposes the MIDI parts together, so the harmony and the melody keep their relationship.
4. Move a recording by semitones. Select the audio clip, open Waveform and turn Pitch Shift up or down. To change a full song's key, split it into stems first, then pitch-shift the pitched stems and leave the drums alone.
5. Add a key change. Press C for split mode and cut the clip where the lift begins, then Pitch Shift the later clip by 1 or 2 semitones. For MIDI parts, ask CoProducer to lift the last chorus by 2 semitones.
6. Listen, then export. Each CoProducer change is one Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac). Choose Export from your avatar menu, pick WAV or MP3 and Full mix or Stems.
What's free
- CoProducer: a daily allowance of requests. Change Key, Pitch Shift and split mode in the studio use none of it.
- The studio: timeline, piano roll, mixer and recording, with up to 5 projects at a time.
- Stems and export: a right-click stem split costs nothing, and WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps, MIDI and stems export with no cap and no watermark.
- Ownership: you own the Output you generate, on every plan.
Veena Pro, $20 a month, removes the daily request cap and unlocks the premium models.

Frequently asked questions
How do I change the key of a song?
Use Veena. Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser. Open Change Key in the transport bar, pick the new key, then ask CoProducer to transpose your parts.
How do I change a song to another key?
In Veena, name the new key in one request: "move this song from F minor to A minor". CoProducer transposes the MIDI parts so the chords, bass and melody stay together, and you set the project's key from Change Key in the transport bar. For a recording, select the clip and use Pitch Shift in its Waveform tab.
How do I create a key change in a song?
Write it into the arrangement. In Veena, ask CoProducer to lift the last chorus by 2 semitones, a whole-step modulation, or split the clip at the bar where the lift starts and Pitch Shift the second half. The drums stay in time because only the pitched parts move, and one Ctrl+Z undoes it.
How do I change keys in the middle of a song?
In Veena, mark the bar where the new key begins. For MIDI parts, ask CoProducer to transpose everything from that bar. For audio, press C for split mode, cut the clip at that bar and apply Pitch Shift to the later clip. Each section stays an editable clip, so you can move the change point and hear it again.
Can I change the key of my own recording for free?
Yes. Import or record the audio in Veena, select the clip, open Waveform and use Pitch Shift for a semitone change. Find Key reads the key you started in. The free plan includes the studio, recording and every export format with no cap and no watermark, so the song in its new key is a file you keep.
