Getting started with Veena

Getting started with Veena takes one Google sign-in and one sentence. Open the studio at daw.veena.studio, start a project and tell CoProducer, your personal music producer, the song you want. It builds drums, bass, chords and melody as real tracks you can change, record over and export, free.

What you need

• A laptop or desktop running macOS, Windows, Linux or ChromeOS. No graphics card: CoProducer's models run on Veena's servers, while the audio engine, the synth and the CoProducer loop run in your browser.
• A modern browser. Veena is built for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc; Firefox is supported and Safari has fallbacks.
• A window at least 1000 px wide.
• A Google account. Sign-in is with Google, and every project saves to your account.
• Optional: headphones, a microphone (your browser asks permission the first time you record) and a MIDI keyboard.

Getting started with Veena in five steps

1. Sign in. Go to daw.veena.studio and sign in with Google.
2. Start a project. On Your Projects, double-click the New Project card, or click it once and press Open. A blank project opens with 6 empty tracks and the CoProducer panel beside them. If the panel is closed, click Ask CoProducer in the bar along the bottom of the screen.
3. Describe the song. Type into the CoProducer box and press Enter (Shift+Enter starts a new line). Genre, tempo, key, instruments and length are the details that matter most, for example:

Make a 90 BPM hip hop beat in A minor, 16 bars: dusty drums, an Upright Piano loop with seventh chords, a Sub Bass under the kick and a short Bell Pluck melody in the last 8 bars.

4. Pick your parts. For each new part, CoProducer offers 3 options in one carousel. Hover a card to hear it, browse with ↑ and ↓, press Enter to add one, or choose More Options or Skip. Nothing that depends on that part is written until you choose.
5. Play, change, export. Press Space to play. Ask for changes in plain words ("half-time drums in the last 8 bars", "swap the piano for the Electric Piano"), and undo any change CoProducer makes with one Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac). To export, click your avatar at the bottom of the left sidebar and choose Export: a 24-bit/48 kHz WAV or 320 kbps MP3 of the full mix, every track as stems, or the MIDI.

Three other ways to start

Hum it. Press record in the transport bar, hum or sing the hook, then ask CoProducer to turn it into an editable MIDI part or to play it on another instrument ("make my humming a saxophone").

Bring your own audio. Click the upload arrow at the left of the transport bar (Import Audio/Video/MIDI File) or drag a file onto the timeline. Veena reads 13 audio formats, MIDI files and 6 video formats, and the first clip you import sets the project tempo. About 1 in 4 first requests in Veena's own data refer to the user's own recording, demo or loop.

Play it in. Click Create MIDI Clip, the piano icon beside the upload arrow, choose an instrument and a sound, and record from a MIDI keyboard or your computer keyboard.

If the studio does not start

• "Veena DAW requires a bigger screen": widen the window past 1000 px and reload.
• The play button says "Preparing audio…", "Loading sound…" or "Buffering…": the audio is still loading. A dim clip marked "Loading audio · 42%" is still downloading.
• Crackles or dropouts: raise the buffer size in Studio Settings → Audio Settings (512 is the recommended setting).
• The microphone does nothing: allow microphone access for daw.veena.studio in your browser, then press record again.
