How can I remove the instrumental from a song?

Published By Veena Studio

How can I remove instrumentals from a song? Split it in Veena: the vocals land on their own track and the instrumental on the others, so you mute the backing and keep the vocal. It is free, it runs in your browser, and it works on your own demos, rehearsal takes and songs you have the rights to rework.

Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser.

How to remove the instrumental from a song, step by step

  1. Open Veena. Go to daw.veena.studio and sign in with Google.
  2. Bring in the song. Click Upload in the transport bar or drag the file onto the timeline. WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC, AIFF and CAF all import.
  3. Stop playback. Separation starts only while the transport is stopped.
  4. Right-click the clip and choose Separate into Stems. A "Separating…" badge sits on the clip while it runs.
  5. Find your four tracks. Vocals, drums, bass and other appear under the original, time-aligned with it. Veena mutes the original, never deletes it.
  6. Mute drums, bass and other. Solo the vocals track and you hear the vocal alone.
  7. Export it. Choose Export from the avatar menu, pick WAV or MP3, then Stems to save each track, or the full mix with the instrumental muted.

The two-track shortcut

Type "isolate the vocals" to CoProducer and Veena places exactly two tracks: one named vocals and one named instrumental. Solo the vocals for the acapella, solo the other for the backing.

After the instrumental is gone

The vocal now sits on a timeline beside a mixer, a producer and a microphone input. Ask CoProducer for a new instrumental at the song's tempo and key, clean the vocal with De-Esser, Auto-Tune or Noise Removal, or record yourself singing over the instrumental.

The full details are in stem separation in Veena, and the quick versions are the free vocal remover and the free stem splitter. Everything else is in the Veena help centre.

Try this in Veena

Isolate the vocals from this song, keep its tempo and key, and build a new lo-fi instrumental under them: dusty Brush kit drums, warm Electric Piano chords and a Round Bass line that follows the vocal phrasing.

Frequently asked questions

How can I remove the instrumental from a song?

Upload the song to Veena, press stop, right-click the clip and choose Separate into Stems. Vocals, drums, bass and other land on four lined-up tracks. Mute drums, bass and other, and the vocal plays alone. Ask CoProducer to isolate the vocals and you get exactly two tracks, vocals and instrumental.

How do I get just the vocals from a song for free?

Use Veena. A right-click split on the free plan costs nothing and uses no daily CoProducer allowance. Solo the vocals track, then choose Export, pick WAV or MP3 and export the acapella with no watermark and no cap.

Can I keep the instrumental and drop the vocals instead?

Yes. Mute the vocals track and what plays is the instrumental. Export it as a 24-bit/48 kHz WAV or a 320 kbps MP3, or keep it in the session and ask CoProducer to build a new part on top.

How long does it take to separate a song in Veena?

A full song takes about 45 to 120 seconds, and the split runs while you keep your project open. Veena accepts up to 95 MiB of audio, about 8½ to 9½ minutes of stereo.

What can I do with the isolated vocal?

Anything a DAW does. Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser. Ask for a new instrumental under the vocal, clean it up, remix it or export it on its own.
