VST Plugins in Browser
VST plugins in browser studios used to be impossible. In Veena, the free AI DAW with a personal music producer built in, your own VST3 instruments and effects, and Audio Units on a Mac, run inside the song you're making, right next to CoProducer. Install the free Veena Bridge helper once, and the synth, compressor and reverb you already know are in the tab.
Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser.
That makes Veena the one place where your plugin chain and a personal producer work on the same song. Your chain is years of ears: you know what your compressor does to your own voice before you hear it. Veena keeps every bit of it.
How VST plugins in browser sessions work in Veena
A VST or AU plugin is compiled native code, built for one operating system and expecting a host's memory and its own window. A browser sandboxes every page so that visiting one can never run native code on your computer. That boundary is what makes the web safe, and Veena doesn't fight it.
Veena Bridge is a small, free helper app that hosts your plugins natively on your own Mac or Windows computer. The studio in your browser finds it on your machine and plays your instruments and effects into the song. Nothing native runs in the tab, and your plugins run where they always have.
- Install once. A signed, notarised app on Mac; an installer on Windows. It starts at login and stays out of sight: no window, no dock icon. The only windows you see are your plugins' own editors.
- Allow local network access. Chrome asks once; allowing it is how the studio reaches the helper on your own computer.
- Pick a plugin. Open the FX rack on a track or the master and press VST, or pick VSTi in a MIDI clip's Instrument menu. Press Open plugin window and the plugin's own interface opens natively on your computer.
- It saves with the song. Each plugin's settings, preset and state are stored in your project, and the audio you export includes them.
The full walkthrough, step by step, is in Set up Veena Bridge.
Every plugin you own, from every folder you use
Not everyone keeps plugins in the default folders. A studio PC with a D:\VST Plugins drive, a Mac with a sample-library disk: Veena reads them all.
- Add plugin folder sits under the list in both pickers, the effects picker and the instrument picker. Press it, then Add folder, and your computer's own folder window opens. Pick the folder where your plugins already live.
- Veena Bridge scans it and shows the folder with its plugin count next to the standard folders. Stop searching a folder with one click on its row.
- Search in every picker. Type "Pro-Q" or "verb" and the list narrows as you type, however large your collection.
- Clear labels. Each plugin is marked supported, may be unstable or not supported, and the crossed-out ones sit at the bottom of the list, out of your way.
Plugin folders arrived in Veena Bridge 1.0.5. If your helper is older, the picker shows an Update button in its title row; one press walks you through the new version.
Instruments and effects, in the same session as your producer
Your plugins aren't parked in a separate rack. They're part of the song CoProducer builds with you.
| What you're doing | How your plugins take part |
|---|---|
| Writing a part | Put Serum, Kontakt or Omnisphere on a MIDI clip as its instrument and play it, draw it or have CoProducer write it |
| Mixing | Insert your EQ, compressor or reverb on any track, or on the master |
| Automation | Draw automation for an effect plugin's parameters on the timeline, the same way as for Veena's built-in controls |
| Asking CoProducer | "Use my Valhalla reverb on the vocal instead of the built-in one" |
| Choosing a sound | CoProducer weighs your plugins against Veena's own instruments and 10 built-in effects, and picks what suits the part |
| Presets | CoProducer starts from a real preset of your plugin rather than a blank patch |
CoProducer knows around 20 popular products by name, including Serum, Kontakt, Omnisphere, Superior Drummer, the FabFilter Pro range, Ozone, Valhalla and the CLA-76. Ask it which of your plugins would suit a dark trap 808 and it answers from what's actually installed on your computer. If Veena Bridge is offline while it's producing, its card says so and asks you to open the helper, so your plugins are never silently left out.
Your plugins in a live session
Real-time collaboration has been live in Veena since 12 September 2026, and your plugins come with you into it. The computer that has a plugin renders its audio and shares it with the whole session, so a collaborator who doesn't own your Serum still hears your Serum. On their screen the plugin is greyed with a Locked chip and your name, so nobody changes a sound they can't run. See how it works in make music online together.
VST plugins in a browser: Veena vs the rest (September 2026)
| Veena | Suno Studio | Song generators | Installed DAWs | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your own VST3 plugins | Yes, through Veena Bridge | "Not compatible" | No signal path to put one in | Yes, after you download and install the DAW |
| Your own AU plugins (Mac) | Yes, through Veena Bridge | "Not compatible" | No | Yes, on their Mac versions |
| A producer that uses your plugins | CoProducer, starting from real presets | No plugins to use | No plugins to use | Separate AI plugins, bought one by one |
| Your plugins in a live session with a collaborator | Yes, and they hear what you own | No plugins to share | No | Depends on the DAW and its add-ons |
| Price of the studio | Free | Premier plan only, $30 a month | Credits and subscriptions | A licence to buy |
Suno Studio says it in its own help centre: "Suno Studio is not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins" (Suno's help centre, August 2026). The studio comes only with Suno's Premier plan, at $30 a month (Suno's pricing page, September 2026). Every mix made there is made without the tools you own.
Song generators hand back a rendered file. There is no track, no insert and nowhere for your compressor to sit.
Installed DAWs host your plugins, but they cost you the download, the install and the licence before you play a note, and the producer still isn't in the room.
Veena gives you all of it in a browser tab: your plugins, your folders, a producer who knows them by name, and a friend in the session. Free.
Built-in sounds, whenever you want them
Every Veena project has its own studio before a single plugin loads: built-in instruments for drums, bass, keys, synths and strings, and 10 built-in effects, including an 8-band EQ, a compressor, reverb and a tempo-synced delay. CoProducer weighs them against your plugins part by part, and you can mix both on the same track. For the built-in effects and how CoProducer uses them in a mix, read AI mixing.

Build a 94 BPM neo-soul groove in D minor with me, 16 bars: chords on my Serum starting from a warm keys preset, a round Fretless Bass line and a Jazz kit with a lazy swing. Then mix it with my own plugins where they fit: my FabFilter Pro-Q to clean up the chords, my Valhalla reverb with a long, dark tail on the keys, and Veena's built-in Compressor on the drums.

Frequently asked questions
Can you run VST plugins in a browser?
Yes, in Veena. Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser. The free Veena Bridge helper runs your VST3 plugins, and Audio Units on Mac, inside that song.
Why can't a browser load a VST file on its own?
A VST is compiled native code for one operating system, and browsers sandbox every web page so it cannot run native code on your computer. Veena keeps that safety model: Veena Bridge hosts your plugins natively on your own machine and plays them into the studio in your browser, so nothing native ever runs inside the tab.
Which plugins work in Veena?
VST3 instruments and effects on Mac and Windows, plus Audio Units on Mac. Effects go on any track or on the master, instruments play your MIDI clips, and each plugin's settings and presets save with your Veena project. The picker marks every plugin as supported, may be unstable or not supported, and lists the crossed-out ones last.
My plugins live in a custom folder. Can Veena find them?
Yes. Open either plugin picker in Veena, choose Add plugin folder, then Add folder, and pick the folder where you keep your plugins in your computer's own folder window. Veena Bridge scans it and shows the count next to it. Every picker has a search, so a big collection is one word away.
Can CoProducer use my own plugins?
Yes. CoProducer reads the plugins installed on your computer, weighs them against Veena's built-in instruments and 10 effects, and starts from a real preset rather than a blank patch. It knows around 20 popular products by name, including Serum, Kontakt, Omnisphere, Superior Drummer, the FabFilter Pro range, Ozone, Valhalla and the CLA-76.
Can a collaborator hear my plugins if they don't own them?
Yes. In a live Veena session, the computer that has the plugin renders its audio and shares it with everyone in the song. A collaborator without it hears the sound and sees the plugin greyed with a Locked chip and your name, so nobody changes a sound they can't run on their own machine.
