Muse AI Alternative: The Whole Song, Not Just the MIDI

Muse writes you a MIDI part, then sends you to "export to your favorite DAW" to turn it into a record — and on its free plan, those parts are loops, with full song arrangements and commercial export reserved for the $15-a-month Pro plan (muse.art, September 2026). The best Muse AI alternative is Veena, a free AI DAW with a personal music producer built in, because CoProducer writes the MIDI and finishes the song in the same browser tab.

Which Muse? This page is about Muse from muse.art, "the AI-native MIDI composer" by Musai Labs. It is not Meta's Muse, the personal AI agent Meta launched on 8 September 2026 (TechCrunch, 8 September 2026), and not the co-writer of the same name that ElevenMusic launched on 27 August 2026 (ElevenMusic's blog). Why musicians look for a Muse AI alternative

Muse says what it is. Its page title reads "AI MIDI Generator & Editor", its FAQ says "Muse is designed to compliment your existing DAW workflow. It is not a plugin", and its homepage promises you will "Record your ideas, refine them with AI, and export to your favorite DAW." Four things follow, all from muse.art on 23 September 2026.

1. The song is finished somewhere else. Muse's homepage lists the exits: "Drag and drop tracks into your DAW, download MIDI files, or export as audio." The vocal, the mix, the master and your plug-in chain live in a second program you already own, or have to buy and learn.
2. Free means loops. The free plan reads "Generate and edit MIDI loops with AI", "Limited agent credits" and "No access to premium models". "Compose full song arrangements with AI" appears only under Pro.
3. Credits run the session. Muse's FAQ puts the free allowance at "around 5 credits a day on average"; Pro gets "200 credits per month for bigger sessions", and top-ups start at $5 for 50 credits.
4. Releasing is a Pro line. "Export for commercial use" is listed under Pro, at $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly. The installed app is version 0.9.12, for macOS and Windows, and "Muse requires an internet connection."

The catch, in one line: Muse gives you notes. A song needs sound, a mix and a place to finish it, and Muse points you to someone else's software for all three.

AIVA's pricing reads "Copyright owned by AIVA" on the free plan and on Standard (€11 a month billed yearly, monetisation on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and Instagram only), and "Copyright owned by YOU" only on Pro, at €33 a month billed yearly (AIVA's pricing page, September 2026). Suno's browser studio, "now with MIDI". The catch: it is Premier-only at $30 a month, "Suno Studio is not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins", and its help centre warns that "new generations fall slightly in front of or behind the beat" for some users (Suno's pricing page and help centre, September 2026).

Mureka

A song generator that also sells a copilot for Ableton. The catch: WAV, stem and MIDI downloads are a Premier exclusive at $30 a month, Mureka Co "Currently supports Ableton Live" only, and on the free tier "mureka owns all rights, title and interest" in what you make (Mureka's plans page and terms, September 2026).

Ableton Live 12

Live's own MIDI Generators (Stacks, Rhythm, Seed, Shape) write patterns inside a DAW. The catch: they are missing from Live Intro, so you start at Live Standard for USD 349; Live is an install for Mac and Windows only; and the 30-day trial stops you saving or exporting once it ends (Ableton's shop and trial pages, September 2026).

Amped Studio

A browser studio whose "AI Assistant" builds an arrangement from a genre and tempo. The catch: "the results are audio stems from a sound library database", not notes written for your song; the AI sits in Premium + AI at $12.99 a month, with a "Demo AI features one-time access" on free; and it "only works with Chromium based browsers" (Amped Studio's pricing, AI and FAQ pages, September 2026).

Moving your Muse MIDI into Veena

You can bring every idea with you.

1. Export from Muse. Download each track as a MIDI file (.mid).
2. Import into Veena. Click Upload in the transport bar and choose your .mid files. Each MIDI track or channel becomes its own clip and track, General MIDI programs map to matching instruments, and channel 10 lands on drums.
3. Give the notes a sound. Pick from 61 presets and 7 drum kits, load a plug-in through Veena Bridge, or ask: "put the bass on an 808 and the chords on an electric piano".
