How to make music on your phone with Veena
- Open daw.veena.studio in Safari or Chrome and sign in with Google. Your Projects lists every song on your account.
- Tap New Project, then Open. The studio opens straight away, with CoProducer's prompt box at the foot of the screen and two quick-starts above it, such as "Build me a hip hop beat". Tap one, or type your own.
- Watch it build. CoProducer writes the song part by part, and the line above the prompt box always says what it is doing.
- Pick each part. CoProducer offers three options for a part as chips. Tap one and it plays in your song, looping its section; tap another to swap it in. Select and Continue keeps your pick and moves to the next part.
- Play it back. Play sits in the middle of the transport, beside upload, record, the metronome and mute mode. The ruler above your tracks shows the song's sections, Intro, Verse, Chorus, and tapping one takes you there.
Type your own first request when you can. In Veena's own data, users who type their first request get a first result on day one 64% of the time, against 56% for users who click a suggestion, and the prompt at the end of this page is a good start.
Direct your producer from your pocket
Type into CoProducer's prompt box like you would talk to a producer: "make the drums half-time", "add a bridge after the second chorus", "swap the piano for a Glass Pad". Tap the status line to open CoProducer full screen. It is the same producer you get on a laptop: the whole conversation, the option cards, the model choice and Stop.
Every part, under your thumb
Pocket Studio is the studio, not a sketchpad. Tap the song's title to set its name, tempo, time signature, key and genre, undo and redo, or export it. Hold a track's name to rename it, set its volume and pan, or delete it, and add a new one with Add Track. Hold a clip to drag it, drag its edge to resize it, and hold a section to rename it. Tap Share and a friend joins the same song in real time, on their phone or their laptop.
Record an idea, then build on it
Tap record in the transport. The count-in clicks on the button, the first time your browser asks for the microphone, and your take lands on a track in the song. Then hand it to CoProducer:
- "Build a song around my recording": CoProducer measures the take's tempo and where your phrases fall, and writes parts that follow it.
- "Turn my humming into a saxophone": your melody comes back as an instrument. More on voice to instrument.
- "Add drums and bass that follow this guitar": a two-bar riff becomes a groove.
