What is a generative audio workstation?
A generative audio workstation is a multitrack music editor where AI generates the audio parts, the phrase Suno used when it launched Studio in September 2025. Free in your browser, Veena is a different answer to what an AI studio should be: an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in, where CoProducer builds your song with you as real, editable tracks.
Where the term comes from
Suno's launch post of 25 September 2025 announced Studio as "the world's first generative audio workstation", and Suno's help centre describes it as a "web-based Generative Audio Workstation (or GAW)". The name plays on DAW: keep the timeline and the tracks, but generate the parts rather than record or program them. Since Studio 2.0 launched on 13 August 2026, Suno has also marketed it as a "browser-based DAW".
What is a generative audio workstation, next to an AI DAW?
The difference is who does the producing. In a GAW, the model generates material and you assemble it. In an AI DAW like Veena, a producer works with you: CoProducer plans the sections, tempo, key and which layers play where, writes each part to fit the parts already placed, offers three options for each, then arranges and mixes.
