What is an AI music generator?
An AI music generator is software that creates new music from a prompt, a genre choice or an audio example, using a machine-learning model trained on existing music. Most hand you one finished render. What is an AI music generator missing?
A typical generator returns a single mixed audio file. Drums, bass, chords and vocal are baked together, so changing one bar of the bass means regenerating the mix, or splitting the render into stems and editing around the seams. There's no piano roll for the melody, no fader for the hi-hats, no way to keep the chorus and rewrite the verse.
