The Suno Studio 2.0 verdict, rechecked in September 2026: a big release on the wrong foundation. What changed in September 2026

Studio got two updates in five weeks. The verdict didn't move:

• 2 September: a smarter chat bar ("aware of bpm") and a fix for "MIDI and MP3 files were missing from some exports" (Suno's release notes).
• 17 September: more accurate audio from MIDI clips and better MIDI from chat prompts (release notes).
• 3 September: download caps everywhere on Suno except Studio: Pro 20 a month, Premier 60, while Premier subscribers using Studio have "no download limits". The only uncapped route off Suno now costs $30 a month; the full rules are in Suno download limits and Suno unlimited downloads.
• 9 September: v6 retired every earlier model; "Retiring a model means you can't generate new songs with it."
• Still true on 23 September: Premier-only, "not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins", no mobile, no Web MIDI on Safari, and the timing warning in the help article.

What Studio 2.0 is

A song generator's top plan with a studio drawn around it: MIDI import, recording and piano-roll editing; musical typing with an arpeggiator and chord mode; MIDI Learn; a wavetable synth; draw-in automation; seven effects; plugins built from a text description; "Split from Mix" and "Advanced Split" stem separation; audio-to-MIDI and MIDI-prompted audio "covers"; multitrack export "in 32-bit WAV or MP3 format"; and a chat bar "currently in beta". Every item on that list sits behind Premier.

What it structurally cannot do

Then there is the manual, which tells you what a launch post never will:

• "Suno Studio is not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins."
• "Web MIDI is currently not available on Safari."
• "a minimum of 768px screen width (mobile devices are not supported)."
• "Studio 2.0 is available now for Premier subscribers."
• "some users may experience timing issues, where new generations fall slightly in front of or behind the beat", with Suno recommending "being rigorous about checking the timing of your new generations."
• "We expect to deprecate Studio 1.x in early September 2026."

Why these are not bugs

This is the part worth understanding, because it explains why more releases won't close the gap.

Plugin hosting, portability and grid-accurate placement aren't features you add later. They are properties a workstation has from its first architectural decision. Suno Studio 2.0 is a generation engine that grew a timeline: the engine produces audio, and the timeline holds it. In that arrangement, placement is a second-order concern, which is why timing lands in the troubleshooting list. And a system built to render its own output has no natural place for someone else's plugin in the signal path.

Veena made the opposite first decision. The DAW is the foundation — tracks, clips, timeline, transport, mixer, instruments, effects — and CoProducer is the producer operating that machinery. It writes parts as MIDI inside the project's own tempo grid and key, and a part that has to fit another reads that part's actual notes before it is written. Generation happens inside the coordinate system rather than being handed to it.

What to do instead
