Online Music Sequencer

Published By Veena Studio

An online music sequencer lets you place notes and hits on a grid and hear them play back as a pattern. Veena has two, free in your browser: a 16-step grid for drums and a piano roll for melodies, chords and basslines. CoProducer, Veena's personal music producer, can write any pattern for you, and every note it places is one you can move.

A browser sequencer that stops at a loop leaves you with eight bars and no song. Veena's sequencer sits on a full timeline with a mixer, recording and export, so the pattern you program becomes the arrangement, the mix and a finished track in one tab.

Who the online sequencer is for

  • Beatmakers who want to paint kicks, snares and hats by hand and hear them straight away.
  • Melody and bassline writers who think in notes and want a piano roll with velocity and snap.
  • Beginners who can describe the pattern before they can draw it: CoProducer writes it, and the grid shows exactly what it did.
  • Anyone on a Chromebook, a work laptop or a phone, where installing a sequencer and a DAW is not an option.

How to use the online sequencer, step by step

  1. Open daw.veena.studio and sign in with Google. Set the tempo from 40 to 300 BPM and pick one of 24 keys.
  2. Create a MIDI clip. Veena adds an empty 4-bar clip to the first free track.
  3. For drums, choose Drum Maker. The clip opens in the Beat Maker step sequencer: 16 steps per bar, four per beat. Pick a kit, then click steps to place hits and drag along a row to paint a run of hats. Set each step's velocity.
  4. For pitched parts, pick an instrument. The clip opens in the piano roll. The Draw Tool is on by default: click the grid to place a note, drag its edge to stretch it, and shape velocity from 1 to 127.
  5. Set the grid. Change Snap offers None, Bar, Beat, 1/2 Beat, 1/3 Beat, 1/4 Beat, 1/6 Beat and 1/8 Beat, so triplets and free placement are one setting away.
  6. Stack the parts. Add a bass, chords and a melody on their own tracks. Everything plays together on one timeline.
  7. Export. Take the full mix as WAV or MP3, every track as stems, or the sequence as MIDI.

The 16-pad MPC sampler plays your own sounds from the same MIDI clips, so a pattern can mix a drum kit, a bass preset and a chopped recording of your own.

Or describe the pattern

Every grid is also a sentence. Say "half-time trap beat in C minor with rolling hats and an 808 that follows the kick" and CoProducer writes it into the step grid and the piano roll as separate tracks. You get three options for each new part to choose from, and each is the same editable pattern you would have drawn. Then change what you like: ask it to swing the hats, humanize the velocities or quantize the bass to 1/8 notes, and one Ctrl+Z undoes any change. The free MIDI generator and free bassline generator start a single part from a sentence.

Real-time collaboration is on every plan. Send an invite link and a friend edits the same project live while you both direct CoProducer. Two people can build one pattern at the same time, each with a named cursor on the timeline.

Try this in Veena

Build a 4-bar loop at 120 BPM in D minor on the sequencer: a TR909 four-on-the-floor kick, claps on 2 and 4, open hats on every off-beat, an acid-style Synth Bass line on the piano roll with a 1/8 note rhythm, and a plucked arp in the upper octave that repeats every bar.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free online music sequencer?

Yes. Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser. Its step sequencer and piano roll are free on every plan, with nothing to install.

What kinds of sequencing does Veena have?

Two. In Veena, a drum clip opens in the Beat Maker, a step sequencer with 16 steps per bar and a velocity for every step. A pitched MIDI clip opens in the piano roll, with a Draw Tool, a Select Tool, 8 snap settings, a velocity editor and a range from C0 to C9. Both sit on one timeline.

How do I make a beat on a step sequencer in Veena?

Open daw.veena.studio, create a MIDI clip and choose Drum Maker. Pick one of 7 kits, then click steps to place hits: Kick, Snare, Hihat and Hihat Open are always showing, and more rows add Clap, toms, Crash and Ride. Drag along a row to paint a run of hats, and set each step's velocity.

Can I sequence melodies and basslines, not just drums?

Yes. Pitched parts live in the piano roll. Click the grid to place a note at the current snap position, drag its edge to stretch it, and set velocity from 1 to 127. Choose from Veena's 61 instrument presets, including six 808s and sixteen synth basses, and every note stays editable after you place it.

Can the sequencer write the pattern for me?

Yes. Describe the pattern to CoProducer, for example a half-time trap beat or a four-bar acid line, and it writes it into the same step grid and piano roll as separate tracks, with three options for each new part. Swap a hat or move a note by hand, or ask it to swing, humanize or quantize.

Can I sequence with a friend in real time?

Yes. Veena has had real-time collaboration on every plan since 12 September 2026. Send an invite link and your friend edits the same project live, with a named cursor on the timeline, while you both direct CoProducer from a shared chat. The project stays yours.

Can I export my sequence as MIDI or audio?

Yes. Veena exports 24-bit/48 kHz WAV, 320 kbps MP3, one .mid file with every MIDI track, or every track as stems, as often as you like and with no watermark, free. A single clip's notes also download from its piano roll as a MIDI file.
