How do I record my voice for a song?

Published By Veena Studio

How do I record my voice for a song? Open Veena: an AI DAW with a personal music producer, CoProducer, built in. Press Record, pick your microphone and sing; your take lands on a real track. Then ask CoProducer to build drums, chords and bass around your phrasing, and keep your voice as the lead. It is free, it runs in your browser, and you own what you make.

How to record your voice for a song in Veena

1. Open the studio. Go to daw.veena.studio and sign in with Google. Open a new project.

2. Allow the microphone. The first time you record, your browser asks for permission. Allow it for daw.veena.studio.

3. Pick your input and calibrate once. Press Record, choose Audio on the left of the Record panel and pick your microphone. Open Calibrate and run Volume calibration and Latency calibration. Switch on Monitoring to hear yourself.

4. Set a count-in. Open the metronome's options menu and choose Count-In: Off, 1 Bar or 2 Bar.

5. Press Start recording and sing. A countdown runs, then your live waveform draws inside a red box on the timeline. To loop a section, drag across the ruler first: each pass replaces the one before, and Veena keeps the last complete pass.

6. Build the song around your voice. Press Stop, then drag the clip into the CoProducer panel and ask:

Build a slow R&B song around my vocal recording: match its tempo, keep my take as the lead, add soft Electric Piano chords that follow my phrasing, a warm sub bass and laid-back Brush kit drums that stay out of the way when I sing.

7. Export. Choose Export from your avatar menu, pick WAV or MP3 and Full mix or Stems.

Starting from a voice memo you already have? Drag the file onto the timeline and use the same request. The walk-through is in turn a voice memo into a song, and voice to instrument turns a hummed line into piano, cello or synth.

What's free

  • Recording: audio and MIDI, with count-in, loop recording and calibration, on every plan.
  • CoProducer: a daily allowance of requests. Picking or skipping options does not use it.
  • The studio: timeline, piano roll, Beat Maker, mixer and Auto-Tune from a track's FX chain, with up to 5 projects at a time.
  • Export: WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps, MIDI and stems, with no cap and no watermark.
  • Ownership: you own the Output you generate, on every plan.

Veena Pro, $20 a month, removes the daily request cap and unlocks the premium models.

If something sounds off: with no input level, check the microphone permission and the input in the Record panel; if takes land slightly late, run Latency calibration again after changing mic or headphones. The full list is on record audio in Veena.

Frequently asked questions

How do I record my voice for a song?

Use Veena. Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser. Allow the microphone, press Record, pick your input and sing; the take lands on a real track.

How do I make a song from a voice memo?

Import the voice memo into Veena, or hum a new one with Record. Drag the clip into the CoProducer panel and ask for a song around it. CoProducer measures the take's tempo and where your phrases land, sets the project tempo to match and writes drums, chords and bass to fit while your voice stays in the song.

How can I record a song for free?

Veena records for free in your browser: vocals, guitar or any microphone your browser can see, with a count-in, loop recording and one-time calibration. Takes save to your account as real clips, and WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3, MIDI and stems export with no cap and no watermark on the free plan.

How do you record yourself singing?

In Veena, run Volume calibration and Latency calibration once, set a count-in of 1 or 2 bars from the metronome's options menu, switch on Monitoring so you hear yourself, then press Start recording. Your live waveform draws in a red box on the timeline, and Stop leaves a normal audio clip you can trim, tune and mix.

Do I need an audio interface to record my voice?

No. Veena records from any microphone your browser can see, a laptop's built-in mic or a USB mic included, and an audio interface works the same way. Pick the input in the Record panel, then calibrate once so your takes sit at the right level and land in time with the song.
