Step 4: The chain, in order
The order matters more than the specific tools:
- Corrective EQ. Narrow cuts for real problems only — a resonant room mode, a harsh 3 kHz peak. Surgical, not creative
- Tonal shaping EQ. Broad, gentle moves of one to three dB. Air above 10 kHz, weight around 60 to 100 Hz, a small scoop where the mix is congested
