The Best WavTool Alternative

Published By Veena Studio

The best WavTool alternative is Veena. WavTool went offline on 15 November 2024, and in June 2025 its team joined Suno, so the free AI browser DAW it promised would "return soon" never came back. Veena is that kind of studio, and free: an AI DAW with a personal music producer, your own plugins, stems and live collaboration, in your browser.

Veena is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in. Describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. Free, in your browser.

What happened to WavTool

WavTool billed itself as a "Free In-Browser DAW" (its homepage title, November 2024). "WavTool runs in your browser. No installation is required," the homepage said, and it let you "collaborate by pasting a URL". Its AI assistant, Conductor, sat in a chat panel offering suggestions such as "Add a Chord Progression", "Execute Timbre Transfer" and "Stem Split".

Then, in its own words (wavtool.com, as archived by the Internet Archive and as it reads today):

  • By 7 November 2024. A banner on wavtool.com: "Important Announcement: WavTool.com is going offline on November 15th."
  • By 16 November 2024. The homepage became a single notice: "WavTool has gone offline… Although the product has been taken offline, we are far from done with the mission. Everything you love about WavTool will return soon".
  • 26 June 2025. Suno announced it had acquired WavTool (Suno's press release). Suno's blog post of 30 June adds that "the deal brings WavTool's advanced editing capabilities and core team into Suno, where they hold leadership positions in product and engineering."
  • 23 September 2026. wavtool.com still shows the same "gone offline" notice, 22 months after "return soon".

So if you are searching for a WavTool alternative, you are not choosing between WavTool and something else. WavTool is gone. The question is where its kind of studio lives now.

Where WavTool's technology went: a $30-a-month studio

Suno's own announcement described WavTool as "the first browser-based DAW to combine professional-grade music production features (VST plugin support, sample-accurate editing, live recording, and more) with native AI capabilities such as stem separation, AI-generated MIDI, and an in-app chatbot for real-time music editing" (Suno's blog, 30 June 2025).

Look at what Suno sells today. Suno Studio 2.0 launched on 13 August 2026, and "Studio is included in the Premier subscription tier", at $30 a month or $24 a month billed yearly (Suno's help centre and pricing page, September 2026). WavTool's team now builds for Suno, and Suno's studio costs $30 a month. The VST support Suno praised in 2025 isn't in it either: "Suno Studio is not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins" (Suno help centre, edited 13 August 2026).

1. Veena: a free AI DAW in the browser

Veena covers every item on WavTool's list, adds a personal music producer who builds whole songs, and charges nothing for the studio.

Two collaborators' cursors on a shared Veena project, with bass, jazz chord and video clips on the timeline and the effects panel open below

  • Free, in your browser. Open daw.veena.studio, sign in with Google, and you are in: nothing to install, no graphics card needed, and it works on laptop, desktop and mobile. The studio is free. Veena Pro, at $20 a month, only removes the daily request cap and unlocks the premium models.
  • An AI assistant that is a producer. Where Conductor added a chord progression, CoProducer builds the song: it plans the sections, writes drums, bass, chords and melody as real MIDI tracks, arranges them and mixes. For each new part it offers three options, and you pick. Ask for changes in plain words ("make the drums half-time", "swap the piano for a Rhodes") and undo any CoProducer change with one Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac).
  • Chord progressions, still the first thing people ask for. In Veena's own data, "chord progression" is the single most common phrase in first requests. Ask for one in a key and a feel, pick from three, and the chords land on the timeline, ready for the piano roll.
  • Timbre transfer, grown up. Hum or sing a melody and CoProducer turns it into a saxophone, a synth pad or a piano part, pitched to your project's key. See voice to instrument.
  • Your VST and AU plugins. The Veena Bridge helper app runs your own plugins on your computer: AU and VST3 on a Mac, VST3 on Windows, instruments and effects both. CoProducer can start from their real presets.
  • Stem separation. Right-click any clip and split it into 4 stems (vocals, drums, bass and other) that land lined up on your timeline, on every plan. Or try the stem splitter.
  • Live recording. Record from your mic with a count-in, a live waveform and loop recording that keeps your last complete pass. Record MIDI from your computer keyboard or a MIDI controller.
  • Collaboration, by link. Since 12 September 2026, invite someone into your session with a link locked to their Google account, or an open link, and build the song together, live, with named cursors on the timeline.
  • Exports with no cap. WAV 24-bit/48 kHz, MP3 320 kbps, MIDI, and MP4 when the project has video; the full mix or every track as stems, as often as you like, with no watermark on your exports. You own the Output you generate.

That covers WavTool's list, with a producer inside it, in a browser tab.

The other WavTool alternatives, and what each one costs you

2. Suno Studio

WavTool's team now builds for Suno, whose studio comes with a beta chat bar that "sees your project" and edits it.

What it costs you: $30 a month, because Studio comes only with Premier. Your plugins, because it "is not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins". Your phone, because "mobile devices are not supported". And downloads outside Studio are capped: 7 lifetime trial downloads on Free for users who joined before 3 September 2026, 20 a month on Pro, 60 on Premier (Suno's blog, 10 August 2026). Our full breakdown: Veena vs Suno.

3. Mozart AI

A chat-first music app with a studio attached. Its homepage title is "Mozart AI - AI Song Generator & Music Maker" (mozartai.com, September 2026), and its own how-to generates the song first and sends you to "Polish in Studio" afterwards.

What it costs you: the right to release. "Commercial use (distribution, monetization, sync, releasing your songs) requires a Creator subscription or higher", which is $10 a month or $84 a year, and since 24 June 2026 upgrading doesn't cover songs you made on the free plan (Mozart's terms, revised 23 June 2026). Credits "do not roll over", per its App Store listing. More in our Veena vs Mozart AI comparison.

4. BandLab

A free browser DAW, with apps for iOS and Android.

What it costs you: room and the AI. The free studio stops at 16 tracks, and "the 15-minute duration limit applies to both free and Membership users" (BandLab help centre, edited 24 March 2026). AutoMix, Voice Cleaner, Audio-to-MIDI and its other Smart Tools are marked "No" on the free plan; Membership starts at $14.99 a month, or $99 for the first year and $149 a year after (BandLab's pricing page, September 2026). Songs started with SongStarter aren't yours: "you won't own the rights to the generated track".

5. Amped Studio

A browser DAW with an AI assistant on its paid tier.

What it costs you: almost everything on free. The Starter plan lists "16 tracks", "No projects export", "Export only in MP3 format", "No VST 3 support external plugins" and "Demo AI features one-time access" (Amped's pricing page, September 2026). The real AI is its Pro plan at $12.99 a month, and its arrangements are built from "audio stems from a sound library database". Amped "only works with Chromium based browsers" and has no mobile version.

6. Audiotool

A free, uncapped browser DAW: "100% free, browser-based DAW with no track or feature caps" (audiotool.com, September 2026).

What it costs you: the AI. Its product pages show no built-in generative AI; AI comes through apps that partners build on its Nexus API. You do every step by hand, which is the exact job WavTool's assistant, and now CoProducer, takes off your plate.

Switching from WavTool to Veena

  1. Gather what you kept. Audio or MIDI files you saved from your WavTool sessions come straight into Veena: 13 audio formats, plus MIDI files with one track per channel.
  2. Rebuild your chain. Install the Veena Bridge once, and your own VST3 and AU instruments and effects appear in Veena.
  3. Let CoProducer pick up the song. Drop an old bounce or a voice memo into the CoProducer panel and ask it to build around it. It measures the tempo and where your phrases land, and every new part follows them.
  4. Bring your collaborators back. Send each one an invite link and work in the same session again, live.
  5. Or start fresh from one sentence. Paste the funk prompt at the end of this page, pick your favourite of three options for each part, and you have a new track to shape.

WavTool promised to return. Its users don't have to wait: Veena is free, in the browser, with a producer inside. Browse more alternatives, see why Veena is the free online DAW with AI, or read our Suno alternative guide if you are leaving Suno too.

Try this in Veena

Make a 112 BPM funk track in E minor: a tight syncopated drum groove with ghost-note snares, a punchy slap-style bass line, bright clavinet-style chords and a short synth-brass hook in the chorus. Intro 4 bars, verse 8, chorus 8, verse 8, chorus 8, breakdown 8, final chorus 8.

Frequently asked questions

What happened to WavTool?

WavTool's homepage announced it was "going offline on November 15th" 2024, and wavtool.com has shown "WavTool has gone offline" ever since. On 26 June 2025 Suno announced it had acquired WavTool, bringing its team into Suno. Veena is the free AI DAW WavTool users can move to today: CoProducer, your plugins, stems and live collaboration, in your browser.

What is the best WavTool alternative?

Veena. It is an AI DAW with a personal music producer built in: describe the song you want and CoProducer builds it with you — beats, chords, melody, arrangement and mix — as real tracks you can edit, mix and export. It covers what WavTool offered, from the AI assistant to plugins, stems, recording and collaboration, free in your browser.

Is there a free WavTool alternative with AI?

Yes, Veena. The whole studio is free: CoProducer builds and edits your song, and the timeline, piano roll, 4-stem separation, your own VST and AU plugins, real-time collaboration and exports with no cap are on the free plan. Veena Pro, at $20 a month, only removes the daily request cap and unlocks the premium models.

Does Suno Studio replace WavTool?

Suno bought WavTool in June 2025, but Suno Studio is a different deal: it comes only with Suno's Premier plan at $30 a month, and Suno's help centre says it "is not compatible with VST or Audio Units plugins" (edited 13 August 2026). Veena gives you a free AI DAW in the browser that runs your own plugins through the Veena Bridge.

Can I use my VST plugins in a browser DAW like WavTool?

Yes, in Veena. The Veena Bridge helper app runs your own plugins on your computer and plays them in your browser session: VST3 and AU on a Mac, VST3 on Windows. Instruments and effects both work, and CoProducer can start from your plugins' real presets. WavTool supported VST plugins before it went offline; Suno Studio does not support them.

Can I make music with someone else in real time, like on WavTool?

Yes. Veena has had real-time collaboration since 12 September 2026, on every plan. Create an invite link, locked to your collaborator's Google account or open to anyone who has it, and you both edit the same project live, with named cursors on the timeline. Veena's CoProducer works in shared projects too, with private and shared chats.
